Chai Research
Chai Research Corp. (CHAI) is a Palo Alto consumer AI company building a character-and-story chat platform, where users create and talk to AI characters on iOS, Android and the web. Founded in 2021 by William Beauchamp, the company trains and serves its own conversational language models on an in-house GPU cluster, and runs Chaiverse — a developer platform where outside model builders submit HuggingFace-hosted language models, have them deployed to real Chai App users, and compete on a public leaderboard. A public Chat API (api.chai-research.com) and a chaiverse pip package were previously documented; both have since been withdrawn — see x-coverage.

Why this profile is thin
The Chat API documentation host docs.chai-research.com no longer resolves in DNS and the documented POST /v1/chat/completions route now returns a bodyless 404, leaving the Chaiverse developer console as the only live developer surface — and every path on console.chaiverse.com, including /openapi.json, answers HTTP 307 to /login, with the developer key issued only through the Chaiverse Discord bot or a HuggingFace OAuth sign-in.
An API exists — we simply could not reach the contract without credentials or a sales conversation. This one is Chai Research's to change: publishing the reference and a machine-readable spec at a public URL, while keeping key issuance behind whatever gate they like, would let an integrator evaluate the API before committing to a call.
