Playground Global
Playground Global is an early-stage deep tech venture capital firm founded in 2015 by Andy Rubin, Bruce Leak, Matt Hershenson, and Peter Barrett, and headquartered at 380 Portage Ave, Palo Alto, California. The firm invests "somewhere between improbable and impossible," backing technical founders who take large technology risks and build companies from first principles. Playground concentrates on four pillars: next-gen compute (quantum computing, novel AI chip architectures, advanced interconnects, and semiconductors), automation (robotics, supply-chain and industrial automation with tangible ROI), energy transition and decarbonization, and engineered biology (AI-driven drug discovery, RNA editing, and next-generation therapies). It invests at the earliest stages, often at company formation, and operates Studio Palo Alto, a lab and prototyping environment for hardware and deep-science founders. Reported assets under management are over $1.2 billion across its funds. Notable portfolio companies include PsiQuantum, Relativity Space, Ultima Genomics, d-Matrix, Velo3D (NYSE), and MosaicML (acquired by Databricks).
Playground Global is tracked in the API Evangelist network. This page is the human-readable profile that sits on top of the machine-readable index we maintain at apis.io.
Every provider in the network is reduced to the same set of machine-readable artifacts — OpenAPI contracts, event specifications, GraphQL schemas, runnable collections, pricing and rate-limit signals, security posture, OAuth scopes, and the agent surfaces (MCP servers and skills) that let software drive the API on its own. We profile them because the interface is the part of a company you can actually inspect: it is a truer signal of what a provider does than any marketing page. The full breakdown is below, followed by every artifact we hold — each card links through to its machine-readable definition on apis.io.
Playground Global is in the network as a tracked entity. We haven't yet indexed a public API surface for it — when one is published, the artifacts, score, and agent-readiness read will appear here automatically. The source repository is where that profile is built.
