Royal Bank of Canada

Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) is Canada's largest bank by market capitalization and one of the country's Big Six, a Schedule I domestic bank chartered under the federal Bank Act and publicly traded (TSX/NYSE: RY) with headquarters in Toronto. RBC serves personal, commercial, wealth, capital-markets, and insurance clients in Canada, the U.S., and internationally. It was the first Canadian bank to launch a public API developer portal (developer.rbc.com — the "RBC External Developer Portal"), which offers self-serve informational/utility APIs (branch locator, credit card catalog, mortgage down-payment and amortization calculators) alongside a partner-gated Business Banking API suite for corporate treasury integration (RBC Move Money via Interac e-Transfer, RBC Pay, and Balance/Transactions, Tracking, and Validation APIs). RBC exposes no first-party open-banking consumer-data API; consumer data sharing today is aggregator-based via bilateral agreements (e.g. Plaid, Yodlee). Canada's federal Consumer-Driven Banking framework (Budget 2024 / Fall Economic Statement 2024, overseen by the FCAC) is legislated but not yet operational, so open finance in Canada remains voluntary and fragmented.

More than an index entry, but the surface is still mostly links rather than artifacts — the cohort most likely to move a full band from modest, well-targeted work.

Kin Score

API Evangelist profiles Royal Bank of Canada the way a machine reads it — 10 machine-readable artifacts across 9 APIs, pulled from the provider's own public surface and indexed so a developer, an analyst, or an AI agent can evaluate it against every other provider on the network.

Every provider in the network is reduced to the same set of machine-readable artifacts — OpenAPI contracts, event specifications, GraphQL schemas, runnable collections, pricing and rate-limit signals, security posture, OAuth scopes, and the agent surfaces (MCP servers and skills) that let software drive the API on its own. We profile them because the interface is the part of a company you can actually inspect: it is a truer signal of what a provider does than any marketing page. From those artifacts we compute the Kin Score — Royal Bank of Canada scores 24.7/100 (emerging), with a separate agent-readiness read of 0/100 (human only). The full breakdown is below, followed by every artifact we hold — each card links through to its machine-readable definition on apis.io.

Kin Score

This is the API Evangelist rating — a single, repeatable read computed from the artifacts on this page. Green fill is points earned; the red track is points possible, so every bar shows earned-versus-possible at a glance.
