Social Capital

Social Capital is a technology investment firm founded in 2011 by Chamath Palihapitiya (a former Facebook executive) and headquartered in Palo Alto, California, with co-founders Mamoon Hamid and Ted Maidenberg. Originally a traditional venture fund that stood out by backing healthcare, financial services, education, and other hard, regulated sectors the VC community had neglected, the firm pivoted in 2018 into a technology holding company that stopped accepting outside capital and now invests from its own permanent balance sheet of roughly $2.1B, aiming to "earn like Berkshire Hathaway and invest like the Red Cross." Its thesis targets multiple emerging $10T markets across deep tech commercialization, life sciences and drug discovery, the global energy transition, and creator-economy media. Chamath became known as the "SPAC King" for taking companies public through the Social Capital Hedosophia (IPOA-IPOF) vehicles, including Virgin Galactic, Opendoor, Clover Health, and SoFi. Notable investments include Slack, Box, SurveyMonkey, Wealthfront, Netskope, Intercom, Groq, Palmetto, Saildrone, and Relativity Space.

Social Capital is tracked in the API Evangelist network. This page is the human-readable profile that sits on top of the machine-readable index we maintain at apis.io.

Every provider in the network is reduced to the same set of machine-readable artifacts — OpenAPI contracts, event specifications, GraphQL schemas, runnable collections, pricing and rate-limit signals, security posture, OAuth scopes, and the agent surfaces (MCP servers and skills) that let software drive the API on its own. We profile them because the interface is the part of a company you can actually inspect: it is a truer signal of what a provider does than any marketing page. The full breakdown is below, followed by every artifact we hold — each card links through to its machine-readable definition on apis.io.

Social Capital is in the network as a tracked entity. We haven't yet indexed a public API surface for it — when one is published, the artifacts, score, and agent-readiness read will appear here automatically. The source repository is where that profile is built.
