Supercritical is a London-based carbon removal marketplace founded in 2021 by Michelle You and Aaron Randall, the team behind Songkick. The company builds the market infrastructure that turns carbon dioxide removal (CDR) commitments into delivered tonnes, connecting corporate buyers with vetted suppliers of durable, engineered, and nature-engineered carbon removal. Supercritical's marketplace covers the major durable CDR pathways — biochar, BECCS, enhanced weathering, direct air capture (DAC), DAC with ocean storage, woody biomass sinking, and bio-oil — with published per-tonne pricing and live availability data. The platform layers a proprietary 118-point vetting protocol on top of supplier listings, spanning climate science, environmental impact, delivery risk, and social benefits, and reports that 84% of assessed projects fail to meet its standards. Supercritical also provides supply sourcing and creation services to originate new CDR projects, buffer-pool-based delivery-risk mitigation, and policy and science advisory work (its team advises SBTi on CDR guidance). Customers include Virgin Atlantic, The Economist Group, Rothschild & Co, XTX Markets, and Tide, with reported coverage of roughly 80% of the global durable CDR market and 1.3M tonnes contracted across 200+ corporate buyers and 600+ tracked suppliers. The business is funded by Lightspeed Venture Partners, MMC Ventures, and GreenCode Ventures. Supercritical does not currently publish a public developer API, SDK, or open-source repository; transactions, supplier discovery, and pricing data are delivered through its hosted marketplace, advisor relationships, and contracted buyer accounts.
