What Trinity does operate, and what is recorded here, is standards-based scholarly and identity infrastructure: a self-hosted Shibboleth Identity Provider on its own domain (idp.tcd.ie, scope tcd.ie) registered in HEAnet's Edugate federation and exported to eduGAIN; a Microsoft Entra ID tenant with live OIDC discovery; an OpenSearch 1.1 description document authored by Trinity's own Digital and Web team; DataCite consortium membership with five prefixes and 16,031 DOIs across five registered repositories; and Crossref membership. Its two flagship repositories — TARA (DSpace) and Digital Collections (Hyrax/Samvera, home of the Book of Kells) — sit on Trinity's own hosts but are fronted by Cloudflare and F5 bot-mitigation that returns a challenge to every unattended client, so they are live but not machine-callable. eDeposit Ireland, the national legal-deposit repository Trinity Library administers, is the one repository that answers a harvester, and it does so as a tenant on Atmire's Open Repository platform rather than as Trinity's own engineering.

Why this profile is thin
Trinity's two institution-operated repository surfaces — TARA at www.tara.tcd.ie and Digital Collections at digitalcollections.tcd.ie — are both reachable in a browser and both refuse unattended clients. TARA returns a Cloudflare 403 interstitial on every path, including /oai/request and /server/oai/request. Digital Collections returns a soft-200 reCAPTCHA page from an F5 Distributed Cloud edge on every path, including /robots.txt and IIIF manifest URLs, so the 200 is not evidence of a readable surface. Neither is dead and neither is an authentication wall; both are bot mitigation. Everything reachable WAS read: the Shibboleth IdP metadata, the Entra ID OIDC and SAML metadata, the OpenSearch descriptor, the eDeposit Ireland OAI-PMH Identify/ListMetadataFormats/ListSets responses and the DSpace REST root, and the DataCite, Crossref and ROR registry records. Beyond that there is simply nothing to find: api.tcd.ie, data.tcd.ie and developer.tcd.ie do not resolve, and www.tcd.ie/llms.txt returns 404.
An API exists — we simply could not reach the contract without credentials or a sales conversation. This one is Trinity College Dublin's to change: publishing the reference and a machine-readable spec at a public URL, while keeping key issuance behind whatever gate they like, would let an integrator evaluate the API before committing to a call.
